    Eleanor Torres

    Board President

    eleanor.torres@rioschools.org

    TERM: December 2026

ABOUT ME: Twelve years ago when the people within our community elected me to the position of Trustee for the Rio School District, I promised that I would do all within that honor to try to change the culture and direction the district was in at that time. I did not then, nor do I now, take this responsibility lightly.

As an elected official, board members continually carry their elected status with them wherever they go. Whether in the boardroom, out in the community or at home, board members are always trustees for the district. The integrity of the school district’s educational program is dependent upon the responsible and professional manner in which each board member, and the board collectively, fulfill governance roles and responsibilities.

It is my responsibility along with the other board members to fulfill areas in setting direction, human resource, policies, student learning and achievement, finance, facilities, judicial appeals, collective bargaining, and community relations and advocacy.

I will continue to do my part as a Trustee to help guide this district and to prepare our children for the future. I will continue to focus on goals linked to student achievement. This means paying attention to current issues while planning for the future. It means making sure needed resources and support are in place to get the job done, and creating the conditions under which excellent teaching and student performance will take place.

  • Alesia

    Alesia Martin

    Board Clerk

    amartin@rioschools.org

    TERM: December 2026

    CAREER:
I worked most of my career as an engineer in a variety of industries from petroleum oil and gas to consumer-packaged goods. I was responsible for the implementation of engineering projects with multimillion dollar projects that spanned across the USA. I also worked briefly in education as a permanent substitute teacher in Chicago, Illinois. My broad career provided great insight of the technical skills and experience required to be successful in a global competitive environment. I retired from engineering in September 2022 after 31 years.

    EDUCATION:
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Northridge.

    ABOUT ME:
I believe that good schools start with strong curriculum, dedicated teachers, and a supportive administration. I know how critical early education is to students. Great schools open a child’s eyes to a world of possibilities. Great districts provide those opportunities.  While all students must acquire various reading, writing, and computational skills, they must also be able to think critically and creatively. As a brief educator, I experienced the dedication and delight that comes from teaching.  I understand the challenges teachers endure and the sacrifices they make to provide our children with a strong educational foundation.

I enjoy spending time with family and friends.  I also enjoy the theater, traveling, fine dining, documentaries, and exploring ancient and historical locations. I continue to enjoy science and learning about the latest advances in engineering and technology.
