Every Friday Miss Laurer’s class participates in what they call Failure Friday where it is ok to fail. Michael Jordan failed to make his high school varsity basketball team. Winston Churchill lost every election for public office until he became Prime Minister of England at the age of 62. It is important to teach kids to fail and use grit to work through their problems. The challenges that the kids do every Friday are designed to be difficult and to make them fail at first and have them try numerous times to complete the challenge.

Failure Friday is designed to encouraged to help students recognize that failure is not the end but the beginning of the learning process. Students learn that failure builds connections and grows the brain. It is all in how we chose to react to failure that makes the difference! Will they have a fixed mindset and give up or growth mindset in that they choose to persevere and find a way?

Below are some videos that display what Failure Friday is all about.
