The Common Core State Standards for Mathematics are divided into K-5, middle school, and high school. In K-5, the standards provide students with a solid basis of math skills, and progress into applications as they advance through the grade levels.

The middle school standards focus on the math skills students will need in high school. In high school, students are required to practice reasoning and thinking mathematically in situations that career, college, and real life will demand.
