I am at the start of my 10th year of teaching. I have taught both elementary and middle school art. I have taught art in New York City, Santa Barbara, Ventura and now in Oxnard at Rio Vista. This is my 2nd year of teaching at Rio Vista Middle School. In my free time I like to spend quality time with my family, hiking, bike riding, playing in the ocean. I also love gardening and creating my own art in my free time.

Hello everyone! I am so fortunate to be here in California. I am originally from EL Paso, Texas. Born and raised a Tejana! I am going on my 32 year of teaching in middle school, and I enjoy sharing my love for English. I was able to complete my education at Oxnard College and Cal State University Northridge. I enjoy paiting and writing, and started my own garden in my back yard. My husband works for the US Navy, and we are proud to call Oxnard our home. I have 2 grown children who have successfully finished the Rio School District. This is a wonderful communtiy to be a part of.

Melanie Martin
Ms. Martin holds a B.A. in English from Cal State University, Long Beach and a masters in creative writing from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. One of her passions is traveling, and she had the opportunity to study abroad in Galway, Ireland while completing her masters. She comes from a family of educators including her dad and older sister, and she believes that public education, especially, is where teachers can truly make a positive impact on young lives. Prior to earning her credential in English in 2010, Ms. Martin taught English at community colleges in Southern California. She has had the pleasure of teaching 7th grade language arts at Rio Vista for 9 years and looks forward to many more.

This is my second year as a Math teacher at Rio Vista MS, and my 6th year of teaching. I have a passion for teaching and I love exploring new and exciting methods to solve problems. I enjoy serving and assisting students, staff and parents of Rio Vista.
My wife and I have lived in Ventura County for over 25 years and we have raised our two adult daughters here. We enjoy the beach, hiking, traveling, the UCLA Bruins and the New York Yankees. In addition to teaching, have coached track & field and cross country at St. Bonaventure and Pacifica high schools.
