Neighborhood For Learning (NFL)

The Rio Neighborhood for Learning was established in 2002 through a partnership between the Rio School District and First 5 Ventura County (link to First 5 Ventura).

First 5 Neighborhoods for Learning (NfLs) are helping families raise children who are healthy, nurtured, and prepared for kindergarten. Designed by and for each community, and recognized nationally for excellence, NfLs are resource hubs supporting children prenatal through age five and their families. Programs and services include:

  • Parent and Child Together (PACT) classes for children 1-4 with their parents
  • Family literacy programs
  • Infant massage classes
  • Triple P workshops
  • Parent education classes and workshops
  • Preschool resources
  • Parent & Toddler Yoga
  • Mixteco translation for families with children 0-5 or in the Rio School District
  • Regular Mixteco community meetings
  • Case management
  • Food pantry
  • Clothing donations
