In Spring 2019, through a connection with Rio del Valle PE teacher Ken Tomimitsu and Rio parent/Field Hockey Federation volunteer Ricardo Mora, the Rio ASES-funded Expanded Learning program forged a relationship with the Field Hockey Federation. Ideas turned into a league, and in its first year, the league had over 100 players. Each elementary school with an ASES program has a field hockey program. Any 4th or 5th grader enrolled in the ASES program is eligible to play. Rio players may have opportunities to participate in the international Cal Cup Tournament in May.
