Parent Involvement at Rio Lindo

We would like to welcome all new and returning parents and students for the new school year. We hope you will join us as we work together with our teachers and staff to support the growth and development of students here on campus. We encourage you to participate in the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), School Site Council (SSC), English Language Acquisition Committee (ELAC), and other site committees and projects. Please contact the school office for additional information. Meeting dates will be posted on the monthly newsletter/calendar. All parents are welcome to attend. By working together, we can help provide our students with a quality education and a positive and safe environment.

School Site Council (SSC)

The purpose of the School Site Council (SSC) is to provide an avenue whereby teachers, parents and staff are able to share in the decision making of school business. The SSC will review and revise the school improvement plan and ensure budget consistency with the school plan and Education Code. The SSC provides assistance and makes recommendations to the principal and staff regarding the planning, implementation, monitoring, modification and evaluation of the school’s specially funded educational program. The SSC also ensures that the school have effective parent and school communication and parent involvement opportunities.

Our School Site Council is made up of parents, teachers and staff. Members are elected by their respective peer groups. There will be a maximum of 10 meetings throughout the year. The SSC determines meeting dates and times.

School Site Council elections will take place at our Back-to-School Night. Parents who are unable to attend Back-to-School Night activities, may vote at any time during the day in the Rio Lindo office.

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

The ELAC is a committee comprised of parents, staff, and community members specifically designated to advise school officials on English Learner program services.

Duties-Responsibilities
a. Advise the SSC on the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA)
b. Advise the principal and staff on the school’s program for ELs
c. Assists in the development and review of the schools
     i.  Needs assessment
     ii. Student annual English language development progress
     iii. Efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance
