Welcome to Rio del Valle Middle School!

This school year is moving incredibly fast.  I wanted to thank you all for your support and flexibility this school year.  Many of our families have been helping our school in activities such as School Site Council, Parent Nights, and helping with AVID, ASB, and our athletic activities. Thank you very much.  We appreciate you taking the time to help and support our students and school.    We are working diligently at ensuring that our students are prepared and ready for State testing, and the next school year.  There are a number of things that will be taking place in the remaining months of school that I would like to inform you of.

  • February 5th & 19th  there is no school in honor of President’s Day
  • February 6th -9th will be minimum days in order to hold parent conferences.  Students will be dismissed at 1:18 p.m.
  • Parent Workshop 3rd Thursday of the month
  • School Site Council meeting February 21st at 3:30
  • 8th grade Promotion will be on June 13th at 6pm

I also wanted to share with you how amazing our students are…. as you are aware our students have an AR (Accelerated Reader) goal to read and take quizzes monthly.  Our goal is that each student reach 10 points monthly.  In the month of January 220 of our students met that goal.  This is the highest number ever!  Please praise your kids for their reading achievements , and continue to encourage them to read daily/nightly.  As soon as we came back from vacation, many of our students took a trip to Pepperdine as we were invited to view a dance performance.  Our students were recognized for their respectful behavior.  We are so proud of them.  AVID students also went to Pepperdine on a college visit.  During our basketball games many of our students and parents are helping – from coaching to snack bar sales to clean up after the game.  Our music students also had the opportunity to play along with some experienced musicians and they did a fabulous job.  Finally, our school attendance is between 96% and 97% our students love to come to school.  These are only a few highlights from the month of January, but there are exceptional things happening daily.  From our school family to yours….. Thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in  teaching and nurturing your children.

It’s a great day to be a Knight!
