About the Counseling Corner

The Counselor’s Corner is a page dedicated to parents. Our intent is to keep parents informed about our counseling activities. Most important, is that this page serves as a resource in which parents can look to for support. Our counseling program is designed to be preventative, proactive, and relevant to our student and community needs. The counselors’ primary focus is geared toward direct services to students. However, we are available to staff and parents for consultation upon request. Ultimately, as counselors we seek to create a safe learning environment that is conducive to student learning, and where barriers to success are eliminated.

Hello Rio Del Norte family. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to work for such a dynamic school. I am equally grateful for the opportunity to continue my work of mentoring, motivating, and serving as a compass to students and families. I look forward to establishing a counseling program that is founded on the American School Counseling Association standards. That is, the academic, career, and personal-social domains are focal points of our counseling program. In doing so, we reassure that all of our students have access, and are connected to our services throughout the entire year.

Our goals for this year are, to solidify our 21st Century Social Skills Group. In which students will delve into topics such as leadership, respect, and identity, among others. Furthermore, we will continue to strengthen our  individual counseling by working closely with teachers, administration, and parents. In taking this approach, we assure that our counseling program is preventative in nature. Lastly, we are working diligently to reach every single student. Therefore, we currently are delivering classroom lessons that focus on tolerance, self-control, and discipline.

I have an open door policy. You are welcomed to come in and visit any time. Or, if you would like to set up an appointment, I can be reached by telephone at (805) 604-1412 ext:1107, or you can send me an email at jnapoles@rioschools.org.
